Cash Plus Acquires Tripass: A World-Cup-Sized Digital Deal Reshapes Morocco's Smart Mobility Map
Cash Plus has agreed to take joint control of Tripass, the startup behind airport-to-city transfer platform WeTaxi, in a deal notified to Morocco’s Competition Council on August 28, 2026. The transaction preserves Tripass’s entrepreneurial leadership while bringing Cash Plus capital and financial expertise to scale the mobility platform ahead of the 2030 World Cup.

Cash Plus has reached an agreement to take joint control of Tripass, the startup behind airport-to-city transfer platform WeTaxi, in a deal formally notified to Morocco’s Competition Council on August 28, 2026. The acquisition will be executed indirectly through Cash Plus’s wholly owned vehicle, Cash Plus VC Fund I SARLAU, alongside Tripass’s founding partner; governance will remain shared and the founder retains a stake. The Competition Council opened a ten-day public consultation that closes on September 9, 2026.
“With WeTaxi, we’re not just offering a transport option — we’re restoring dignity to taxi drivers through modern management tools,” said Abid Khirani, co‑founder of Tripass. “The high rating is the fruit of their efforts, and proof that when technology is inclusive, it becomes a genuine engine of economic and social progress.”
The move represents a strategic expansion for Cash Plus beyond payments and money transfer into smart mobility, timed as Morocco prepares to co‑host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal. Cash Plus was licensed as a payment institution by Bank Al‑Maghrib in 2019 and now operates a network of more than 3,000 agencies across the Kingdom. In 2025 the group reported consolidated net banking income of 863 million dirhams (roughly $86.3 million), up 14% year‑on‑year, and a total transaction volume exceeding 130 billion dirhams. Cash Plus also completed an IPO on the Casablanca Stock Exchange in 2026 that was oversubscribed by more than 65 times.
The acquisition is structured to preserve Tripass’s entrepreneurial leadership while injecting capital and financial expertise. Cash Plus has already been diversifying via its investment arm with stakes in platforms such as B2B commerce platform Sle3ti and retail‑technology firm z.systems, signalling a broader push to assemble an integrated digital ecosystem spanning commerce, retail and mobility.
WeTaxi performance and social impact
WeTaxi operates interactive booking screens in airport arrival halls, selling fixed, prepaid rides that reduce overcharging and pricing disputes for international visitors. Since launch, the platform has transported more than 2.1 million passengers between airports and city centres and carries a cumulative user rating of 4.3 out of 5. Its digital tracking system has returned 2,341 lost items to owners — a reflection of operational reliability — and, importantly, has onboarded taxi drivers into digital wallets and formal financial services.
- Deal notified to Competition Council: August 28, 2026
- Public consultation period: 10 days, closing September 9, 2026
- Cash Plus network: >3,000 agencies
- 2025 consolidated net banking income: 863 million dirhams
- 2025 transaction volume: >130 billion dirhams
- WeTaxi passengers carried: >2.1 million; rating: 4.3/5; lost items returned: 2,341
Analysts see three strategic threads in the deal: sectoral convergence between fintech and operational services, a pragmatic bet on airport transport tied to the fixed timeline of the 2030 World Cup, and a test of whether Tripass can retain its agility with an institutional partner on board. Cash Plus’s expertise in financial inclusion could accelerate formalisation of earnings for taxi drivers and enable new financial products tailored to transport workers.
Looking ahead, the partnership positions Tripass to scale WeTaxi to additional airports and logistics hubs while giving Cash Plus operational data and market reach in mobility. The Competition Council’s forthcoming ruling will determine whether the joint‑control structure clears unimpeded, but the transaction already marks a notable pivot in Morocco’s digital mobility landscape as the country readies for the influx of visitors the 2030 tournament will bring.
