Riyadh Air has launched its flagship Hafawa lounge at King Khalid International Airport (RUH), a 2,000 square metre (21,500 sq ft) facility designed to serve international business-class travellers. Located between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 — with Riyadh Air check-in in Terminal 2 — the lounge opened alongside the carrier’s commercial operations and currently serves all Riyadh Air international departures except domestic flights. The space has capacity for 370 guests and officially opens three hours before any departure.

"The Riyadh Air Lounge is absolutely phenomenal, and I rank it as being among the best in the world," said the reviewer, adding that the facility delivers "striking design, a calming vibe, very friendly service, great food (including a la carte dining), and impressive amenities."
Context and details
The Hafawa lounge — named after the Arabic expression for warm hospitality — is one of the most notable openings by a well-funded airline startup, coming into service as the carrier begins flights. Guests are greeted in the central arrival area at the top of an escalator, where staff offer Arabic coffee and a date as a welcome gesture. The lounge is composed of a sequence of interconnected rooms rather than a single open-plan space; each room is intended to support different moods and functions.
- Design: Inspired by the Saudi desert landscape, the interior palette uses limestone, oak and textured plaster.
- Layout and capacity: 2,000 sqm across multiple zones, 370-guest capacity, one level above the terminal with entry agents on the lower level.
- Access: Currently available to international business-class passengers. The airline sells additional lounge access for non-business bookings (pricing requires logging into a reservation). The carrier is building its Sfeer frequent flyer program, which is expected to include elite tiers that may offer access. A partnership with incoming Delta service could also extend premium access to partner customers.
- Hours and crowding: Officially opens three hours before departure; at present the reviewer found the lounge nearly empty (solo for 30 minutes, later a few dozen guests), but anticipates higher utilisation as Riyadh Air expands its fleet and route network.
- Amenities and service: A la carte dining, a variety of seating zones, friendly staff, and a calm atmosphere were highlighted by the reviewer as key strengths.
Outlook
The Hafawa lounge positions Riyadh Air to deliver a premium ground product from the start of operations, a rare move for an airline launch. With rapid fleet deliveries and a quickly expanding route map, the lounge is expected to grow busier over time; for now, passengers benefit from a high-end, low-traffic environment. Future developments to watch include pricing and availability of paid access, the rollout of the Sfeer frequent flyer program and how partner access — notably from Delta as it begins flying to Riyadh — will be integrated into the lounge’s access policy.
