In the ‘Year of AI,’ how Riyad Bank is contributing to future of Saudi financial sector

Riyad Bank has made artificial intelligence a central pillar of its strategy as Saudi Arabia marks 2026 as the “Year of AI,” reinforcing the institution’s role in advancing the Kingdom’s digital economy and the ambitions of Vision 2030. The bank established its Center of Intelligence (COI) in 2024, moved from unified analytics to live operations in 2025, and this year is focused on scaling proof-of-concepts into production across customer service, fraud prevention and enterprise decision-making.

“AI to the Core,” Riyad Bank’s stated philosophy, captures the institution’s aim to weave intelligence into services and daily operations so that “a bank in which intelligence enriches every decision, service, and interaction” becomes the operational norm.

How the COI is being operationalised

The COI works closely with Riyad Bank’s data, technology, risk, operations and business teams to infuse AI across the organisation. Deployment activities cited by the bank include:

  • Shortening customer request processing turnaround times through automated models and workflow optimisation.
  • Strengthening early fraud detection and prevention with predictive analytics and monitoring systems.
  • Rolling out conversational AI pilots to improve customer interactions and operational responsiveness.
  • Empowering decision-makers with proactive analytics designed to increase decision speed and precision.

The bank describes its approach as industrialised innovation: rather than relying on scattered pilots, the COI launches solutions in integrated, successive waves so each phase builds on the last and transitions from design to daily operations. That methodology is intended to deliver scalable, sustainable impact and accelerate the bank’s digital transformation.

Riyad Bank has partnered with global AI firms including NVIDIA and DataRobot to reinforce its technical capabilities while emphasising that employees remain “the true engine” of innovation. The institution has framed its AI journey as both a technology and a people transformation, aiming to equip the entire organisation with capabilities that will underpin future developments — including the bank’s stated move toward “agentic AI” on the road to 2030.

Security, governance and scalable architecture are core to the COI’s digital-first framework. Riyad Bank says these elements anchor the centre’s work to ensure capability expansion happens in lockstep with rigorous risk controls and regulatory expectations, an approach the bank positions as a potential model for regional adoption.

Since its COI launch in 2024, the bank reports progression from analytics unification to live operations in 2025 and a scaling focus in 2026, aligning deployment timelines with broader national priorities. The bank’s public messaging links this trajectory directly to Saudi Vision 2030, positioning AI-driven efficiency gains and service innovations as contributions to economic diversification and technological sovereignty.

Looking ahead, Riyad Bank’s COI aspires to push beyond current applications to anticipatory solutions that predict customer needs and further embed intelligence across the enterprise. The bank’s roadmap centers on translating national priorities into enterprise value while supporting the Kingdom’s shift toward a knowledge-based, digitally powered economy by 2030.
