How AI Fashion Startup Irisphera Unlocked the Gulf Market

Irisphera, an AI fashion personalisation startup founded by Romanian entrepreneur Antonia Dumitriu, has moved into 12 markets since launching in September 2025 and already processed more than 100,000 fashion products, completed over 50,000 virtual try-on sessions and generated more than 45,000 styling recommendations. The company reports one partner achieving a 28% conversion rate — far above typical e-commerce figures — and has struck a partnership to integrate its solution into Oracle’s fashion enterprise ecosystem.

"It's not just a number; we are setting a new standard for what personalisation can achieve," Dumitriu says, underscoring Irisphera's early traction and tangible business impact.

Dumitriu’s path from stylist to founder informs Irisphera’s product and go-to-market approach. A stylist from age 16 with editorials for Vogue Italy and experience with designers such as Jil Sander, she conceived the platform "during the pandemic, while I was still in high school and getting bored." After winning a contest for young entrepreneurs, she secured investment, built a team and spent four years developing the product before launch.

The company’s expansion into the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region came almost serendipitously. A colleague attended a regional conference and Dumitriu joined; immediate interest and requests for in-store experience technology followed. "Our entry into the Middle East happened almost by chance," she says. Dumitriu contrasts the region’s decision-making speed with Europe’s longer pilots: "In Europe, you might go through months of discussions and pilots. In the GCC, we found that if they see the value and trust you, they are ready to move very quickly."

Human relationships and product localisation drove adoption

For Irisphera, rapid adoption in the Gulf was driven as much by in-person relationship-building as by technology. Dumitriu emphasizes the cultural importance of meetings: "They really value you being there, shaking hands, and building a connection... It's B2B on paper, but in practice, it’s human to human, right?" That human-to-human dynamic, she says, is a prerequisite to unlocking the region’s appetite to be first-movers on innovation.

Technical adaptation to local norms was equally crucial. Privacy concerns — particularly in markets like Saudi Arabia — required product changes. "We had to adapt the product, especially around privacy. In some markets, particularly Saudi Arabia, people are not very comfortable with sharing their photos online for this kind of analysis," Dumitriu explains. Irisphera introduced privacy options such as blurring users' faces and built its AI so images are processed ephemerally: "our AI processes the image for analysis but we don't save or train our models on shoppers' images. The data is ephemeral."

  • Launch: September 2025
  • Markets active: 12
  • Products processed: 100,000+
  • Virtual try-ons: 50,000+
  • Styling recommendations: 45,000+
  • Notable metric: 28% conversion with an Asian partner
  • Enterprise partnership: Oracle integration

Looking ahead, Dumitriu frames AI as an "intelligence layer" for fashion that can boost conversions, reduce returns and address sustainability by optimising purchasing and inventory decisions. With a blend of personalised in-store and online experiences, privacy-first design and regional relationship-led sales, Irisphera aims to scale that model from the Gulf into broader international retail networks.
