Otech تطلق منصة للذكاء الاصطناعي السيادي

Oman-based Omantel’s technology arm Otech and UAE-founded Deep Astra have launched a locally hosted artificial intelligence platform aimed at giving businesses across Oman access to multiple AI models without the need to build their own expensive computing infrastructure. The Deep Astra application programming interface (API) is being offered as a “sovereign AI” service, hosted inside Oman to support data-security, governance and compliance requirements while allowing companies, developers and SMEs to connect once, select from multiple models and pay according to usage.

Direct quote

“A fully integrated environment that can be managed, measured and developed according to each organisation’s priorities,” said Maqbool bin Salem Al Wahibi, Acting CEO of Otech, describing the platform’s intended role in turning technology into economic and institutional value. Deep Astra CEO Mahmoud Al Nafie added the partnership gives organisations “greater control over their data, models and infrastructure.”

The platform acts as a single gateway through which users can test and use different AI models instead of separately connecting to each model or investing heavily in servers and other infrastructure. Otech will be responsible for making the service available locally and helping organisations adopt it, while Deep Astra supplies the underlying technology, including the unified interface and management of different AI models.

Service features announced by the partners include local hosting of the API to address sovereignty concerns, access to open‑source AI models, and a pay‑per‑use model intended to lower the cost and technical barriers to developing AI-based products. For smaller businesses and technology start-ups, the model is positioned to enable projects to begin at limited scale and expand as demand and operational capacity grow.

By packaging the Deep Astra API as a sovereign AI offering, Otech and Deep Astra are targeting organisations with strict data-security, governance and compliance requirements that prefer to keep data and model operations within national infrastructure. The companies say the platform will let teams select the model best suited to a given task from a unified interface, streamlining testing and commercial deployment timelines.

Context and strategic alignment

  • The launch aligns with national digital economy objectives, including Oman Vision 2040 and the Eleventh Five-Year Development Plan, which encourage private-sector investment in technology and wider digital transformation.
  • Otech’s role centers on local availability and adoption support, signalling a service‑delivery focus toward enterprises and SMEs across Oman.
  • Deep Astra’s contribution is the API technology—managing interoperability among models and presenting a single connection point for users.

Outlook

  • Adoption by Omani organisations will likely hinge on clear pricing, the roster of supported models, and demonstrable compliance with local data rules.
  • For start-ups and SMEs, the pay‑as‑you‑go approach could reduce upfront capital requirements for AI experimentation and accelerate time to market for AI-enabled products.
  • If uptake is strong, the model could be expanded to support additional sector-specific tools, managed services and localised model development capabilities over time.
