Yas Waterworld Yas Island in Abu Dhabi will open its latest expansion on 4 April 2026, Miral has announced. The development adds 11 new attractions — eight slides, two jumping platforms and a lounging pool — taking the water park’s total experiences to more than 70 and marking the next phase of its "Lost City" theming tied to the park’s Legend of the Lost Pearl storyline.
"The expansion of Yas Waterworld marks an important milestone in our commitment to delivering world-class entertainment experiences on Yas Island," said Jonathan Brown, chief portfolio officer at Miral. "With 11 new slides and attractions, we are enhancing the park’s offering with fresh thrills and immersive adventures for guests of all ages. As Abu Dhabi continues to grow as a global tourism hub, we remain focused on further positioning Yas Island as a top global destination for entertainment and leisure."
New attractions and technical details
The new ride package was developed in collaboration with WhiteWater, a leading waterpark manufacturer that also worked with Miral on the park’s previous expansion. The additions include a mix of record‑seeking thrill rides and family‑friendly facilities designed to broaden the park’s demographic reach.
- Matamir’s Drop — described as the UAE’s tallest waterslide, offering a plunge from more than 40 metres and a 233‑metre slide run.
- Sahel Matamir — a thrilling freefall tube racer.
- Matamir Loop — a high‑speed body slide.
- Matamir Twist – Matamir Lights — combines fast drops with immersive lighting effects.
- Matamir Splash — a duelling mat racer.
- Sarab — a family‑friendly leisure pool area aimed at broader guest groups.
- Al Afda — a new jump platform (one of two added).
Miral framed the project as the next stage of Yas Waterworld’s Lost City expansion and the continuation of an incremental growth strategy for the park. The company previously completed an earlier expansion that opened in July 2025, which delivered 20 new rides, slides and experiences alongside a new dining offering — a project that also featured WhiteWater collaboration.
Outlook for Yas Island
Miral’s announcement signals continued investment across Yas Island’s leisure portfolio. Miral CEO Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi has separately confirmed that Disneyland Abu Dhabi will proceed, and a new Topgolf venue is currently under construction on the island. Together with the Yas Waterworld additions, these projects underline Miral’s stated aim to broaden entertainment and leisure options for visitors.
As Yas Waterworld prepares to welcome guests to its expanded line‑up on 4 April, the park and its partners will be testing how the new mix of high‑throttle slides and family amenities performs within Abu Dhabi’s wider tourism offering and Miral’s long‑term plans for Yas Island.
