US$148M Healthtech Investment GCC Startup at WHX Tech

Healthtech startups across the GCC attracted US$148 million in disclosed investment between January 2025 and July 2026, with 32 companies securing funding and deal activity concentrated in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, organisers of WHX Tech said as they prepared for the event in Dubai from 26–28 January 2027 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. WHX Tech will feature an Investor Programme and the Xcelerate Startup Competition to connect the region’s emerging health-tech companies with capital, industry partners and regulators.

“What excites me is that the GCC is starting to move from being a buyer of healthcare innovation to actually wanting to build it,” said Tugce Ergul, Founding Partner of Hypernova Capital and a member of the WHX Tech Investor Programme. “In biotech, that matters a lot. Capital alone doesn’t build an ecosystem. You need patients, data, labs, regulators, manufacturing and researchers around the same table.”

PitchBook data cited by event organisers shows 32 healthtech companies across five GCC markets received funding in the period, with Saudi Arabia accounting for 17 of the funded companies and the UAE 11. Deal activity remained steady through 2025 and into 2026, with 21 transactions closing in 2025 and a further 11 in the first half of 2026. Investment themes include digital health, telehealth, women’s health and AI-driven diagnostics.

  • Total disclosed funding: US$148 million (Jan 2025–Jul 2026)
  • Funded companies: 32 across five GCC markets; Saudi Arabia: 17; UAE: 11
  • Deal cadence: 21 transactions in 2025; 11 transactions in H1 2026
  • Event dates: WHX Tech, 26–28 January 2027, Dubai World Trade Centre

WHX Tech organisers are positioning the conference to accelerate the translation of advanced technologies into clinical and commercial use. The Xcelerate Startup Competition will showcase startups demonstrating how data and advanced technologies are being translated into real-world applications. One participant named for the competition is Canadian digital health company BioTwin, which is piloting virtual “human twin” technology in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi to create personalised patient profiles for breast cancer screening.

Danielle Brewin Graham, General Partner of Phoenix Fire Ventures, Co‑Founder of The Firehood and a WHX Tech advisory board member, emphasised the region’s operational advantages. “The region’s advantage is speed. Regulatory sandboxes and government-backed programmes let healthtech founders pilot with real institutional partners far faster than in North America, where pilots can take years to unlock,” she said. Brewin Graham warned, however, that mid-stage capital and mentorship remain the largest gaps for scaling startups beyond initial rounds: “There’s often strong early-stage enthusiasm and government support, but a thinner bench of experienced operators who’ve scaled a company through Series A and beyond.”

Lorena Diaz Palle, Event Director for WHX Tech, described the show’s remit as bringing interdisciplinary technologies together with the stakeholders needed to scale them. “WHX Tech is designed to put that technology in front of the people who can help take it further: investors, healthcare decision-makers, technology partners and policymakers,” she said.

Organisers say the Investor Programme and Xcelerate Competition will be central to WHX Tech’s agenda, matching investor capital and operational experience with founders prepared to demonstrate clinical relevance, regulatory readiness and clear routes to scale across diverse GCC markets. The conference is scheduled to run alongside broader World Healthcare Week programming, which organisers expect will draw thousands of delegates and industry leaders to Dubai.
