UAE-Moldova Economic Partnership Expands Across Trade, Investment and Technology
UAE and Moldova held high-level talks in Abu Dhabi to deepen bilateral economic cooperation across trade, investment and future-focused areas such as AI, digital government, renewable energy and education, alongside institutional partnerships to support project delivery.

On 5 October 2026, senior officials from the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Moldova held high-level talks in Abu Dhabi aimed at expanding bilateral economic cooperation across trade, investment and future-focused sectors including artificial intelligence, digital government, renewable energy and education. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, met Corina Calugaru, State Secretary at Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss ways to deepen private-sector engagement, improve air connectivity and translate bilateral discussions into concrete projects.
“The two countries could build on promising opportunities in trade, investment, digital government, renewable energy and other future-oriented sectors,” Al Zeyoudi said, framing the meeting as an opening to broaden commercial and institutional ties between the two markets.
The talks highlighted a multi-pronged approach to strengthening UAE‑Moldova ties. Officials identified trade and investment as immediate levers for growth, with the UAE encouraging its companies and investors to explore opportunities in Moldova and partner on projects with long-term potential. Technology cooperation was singled out as a priority, with artificial intelligence and digital government named as areas for knowledge exchange and capacity building that could accelerate Moldova’s digital transformation while creating collaboration opportunities for UAE firms.
- Air connectivity: Delegates discussed improving transport links to support tourism, business travel and investment flows, noting that stronger air links would facilitate people-to-people exchanges and make it easier for companies and investors to pursue cross-border opportunities.
- Energy and education: Renewable energy and education featured in discussions as sectors where capital, expertise and international partnerships could create mutual benefits, including joint projects and skill development programs.
- Private-sector focus: Both sides emphasised the need to strengthen ties between the two business communities so that identified opportunities can progress toward practical implementation.
Institutional cooperation was advanced alongside commercial talks. On the sidelines of the meeting, the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova signed a Memorandum of Understanding to exchange expertise in diplomatic training, capacity development and institutional cooperation. The agreement is intended to deepen knowledge-sharing and build an institutional framework to support the broader bilateral relationship.
“Enhanced air connectivity, institutional cooperation and the exchange of expertise would help support the movement of people, business and investment between the two countries,” Al Zeyoudi added, underscoring the link between logistics, policy coordination and economic outcomes.
Looking ahead, officials said continued coordination among relevant entities in both countries will be critical to turn diplomatic pledges into tangible projects. For Moldova, deeper engagement with UAE investors could bring capital, technical know‑how and access to international markets. For the UAE, expanding commercial links with Moldova would diversify investment destinations and strengthen a network of partnerships across Europe and beyond. The joint focus on technology, renewable energy and education suggests the partnership aims to move beyond traditional trade ties toward longer‑term collaboration on digital and green transition priorities.
