UAE Hospitality Sustainability Alliance Launches to Drive Measurable Action

Dubai, 1 September 2026 — The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) has launched the Emirates Hospitality Sustainability Alliance (EHSA) at Coral Beach Resort Sharjah, convening hospitality leaders, sustainability professionals and industry stakeholders to accelerate practical, measurable environmental action across the UAE hospitality sector. The alliance will target energy and water consumption, general waste and food waste, procurement and supply-chain practices, and broader resource efficiency across hotels, resorts and the wider hospitality value chain.

"EHSA is intended to connect sustainability efforts that are already taking place across the hospitality sector and provide a stronger platform for collective action," said Dr Habiba Al Mar'ashi, Co‑Founder and Chairperson of the Emirates Environmental Group. She added that "sustainability needs to move beyond individual aspirations and isolated initiatives towards a more structured approach based on measurement, improvement and accountability."

The launch brought together representatives from government entities, suppliers, service providers, sustainability professionals, environmental organisations and academic institutions — reflecting an explicit ambition to address the sector's impacts beyond individual properties. EEG framed the alliance as a response to the "increasing scale and complexity of environmental challenges facing the hospitality industry," and positioned EHSA to enable coordination on shared priorities such as procurement choices, food sourcing, waste management and consumer behaviour.

Practical aims and measurement focus

EEG emphasised that EHSA will prioritise measurable outcomes rather than symbolic commitments. "EHSA will seek to help stakeholders understand current performance, identify areas where improvement is needed and measure the progress achieved over time," Dr Al Mar'ashi said. The alliance will therefore create mechanisms for benchmarking, data sharing and joint projects intended to deliver quantifiable reductions in resource use and waste generation.
