UAE EdTech Firm and AfricAI Sign Deal to Launch AI-Powered Learning Initiative Across Nigeria

UAE-based education technology company Alef Education has signed a memorandum of understanding with Nigeria-based AfricAI to improve foundational education

UAE-based education technology company Alef Education has signed a memorandum of understanding with Nigeria-based AfricAI to launch NextGen Learning Nigeria, a large-scale, AI-powered digital learning initiative that will begin in Nigeria and is intended to be replicable across the continent. Under the agreement, Alef Education will serve as the technology and implementation partner, providing an AI-driven learning platform, customized content, deployment planning, educator training programmes and real-time learning analytics. AfricAI, which operates across 18 African countries, will lead regional rollout and local engagement, with a stated emphasis on expanding access in underserved communities.

Geoffrey Alphonso, CEO of Alef Education, said: “By combining our advanced technology with AfricAI’s regional expertise, we are creating a model that strengthens foundational learning in Nigeria and lays the groundwork for expansion across other African markets.”

Details of the partnership

The memorandum of understanding establishes NextGen Learning Nigeria as a strategic initiative designed to deliver scalable, technology-enabled education solutions aligned with Nigeria’s national education priorities. Alef Education will provide the core technological stack and implementation services while AfricAI will leverage its regional networks and country-level knowledge to deploy the programme in schools and communities.

  • Lead partners: Alef Education (technology and implementation) and AfricAI (regional operations and engagement)
  • Geography: Nigeria as first market; AfricAI active in 18 African countries
  • Programme name: NextGen Learning Nigeria
  • Core subject areas: English, mathematics, science, public safety awareness, climate literacy and civic education
  • Key components: AI-driven learning platform, customised content, deployment planning, educator training programmes, real-time learning analytics

HRH Prince Malik Ado-Ibrahim, executive chairman of AfricAI, framed the initiative as a response to both education and economic priorities, saying: “Nigeria’s greatest resource is the intelligence and potential of its young people.” The agreement builds on Alef Education’s existing deployment in Morocco and is presented as complementary to the recently signed UAE-Nigeria Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which the partners say highlights growing collaboration on AI, education and human capital development between the two countries.

Outlook

NextGen Learning Nigeria is positioned as a model that can be scaled across other African markets if initial deployments meet performance and adoption targets. The partners emphasise educator training and analytics as critical to measuring impact and ensuring classroom integration. With Nigeria as the initial launch market and AfricAI’s multi-country footprint, the initiative could extend to additional countries where AfricAI operates; the memorandum of understanding sets an early framework but does not, in the public text, specify timelines, budget or target numbers of students or schools. Observers will watch how pilot deployments perform in underserved communities and how the initiative aligns with national curricula and accreditation mechanisms as it moves from agreement to implementation.
