Top Healthcare Leaders 2026 Founders & Shareholders

The Middle East’s leading healthcare founders and shareholders are accelerating expansion through acquisitions, manufacturing investment and regional growth, with major capital commitments announced across the Gulf and North Africa. The 2026 list highlights 50 founders and shareholders, with the UAE accounting for 18 entries, Saudi Arabia 13 and Egypt 10. Notable moves include PureHealth’s continuing platform growth to more than 110 hospitals and 316 clinics, Aster DM Healthcare’s $272.3 million in new UAE projects alongside a $250 million programme in Saudi Arabia, Fakeeh Care Group’s $426.7 million hospital acquisition in East Riyadh, and EVA Group’s $120 million research and manufacturing complex under construction in Saudi Arabia.

"The Middle East’s Healthcare Founders and Shareholders are focused on scaling their businesses through acquisitions, manufacturing expansion, regional growth, and entry into new markets, while strengthening local healthcare capacity," the ranking summary states.

Top of the founders ranking is Shaista Asif, cofounder and group CEO of PureHealth, whose integrated healthcare platform now spans hospitals, clinics, diagnostic labs, pharmacies, health insurance and health technology assets across the UAE, US, UK, Greece and Cyprus. Following Asif are Sulaiman Al Habib, group founder and chairman of Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Services Group (HMG), and Azad Moopen, founder chairman and managing director of Aster DM Healthcare. Other prominent names in the top 10 include Shamsheer Vayalil of Burjeel Holdings, Said Darwazah of Hikma Pharmaceuticals and Mazen Fakeeh of Fakeeh Care Group.

The list quantifies several high-value projects that underline a strategic push toward both capacity building and vertical integration. Aster DM Healthcare has advanced $272.3 million in new healthcare projects in the UAE and has a concurrent $250 million investment programme in Saudi Arabia aimed at expanding facilities and services. Fakeeh Care Group’s strategic expansion was marked by a $426.7 million acquisition of a hospital in East Riyadh, a move that strengthens its footprint in the Saudi market. Egypt’s EVA Group is investing $120 million to create a research and manufacturing complex in Saudi Arabia, signalling cross-border industrial investment in pharmaceuticals and medical technologies.

PureHealth’s scale is highlighted by a breakdown of its assets: more than 110 hospitals, 316 clinics and 145 diagnostic labs, complemented by 100 pharmacies and strategic investments. This breadth reflects a growing preference among regional healthcare leaders to build integrated care ecosystems that combine delivery, diagnostics, retail pharmacy and insurance under single platforms.

The ranking methodology combined questionnaires with public disclosures, industry reports and financial statements. Selection criteria included company size (revenues, assets, medical facilities), leaders’ ownership stakes, sector impact, recent innovations and initiatives in 2025–2026, leaders’ experience, operational diversity, transparency and sustainability or CSR programmes.

Beyond the top three, the list includes a wide cross-section of regional healthcare entrepreneurs and investors: Ramez Al-Khayyat (Estithmar Holding), Ayman Tamer (Tamer Group), Nassir Sultan Alsubaie (Mouwasat Medical Services), Sherine Helmy (Pharco Pharmaceuticals) and Zaid S. Al Khayyat (Al Khayyat Investments), among others. The composition demonstrates a mix of hospital groups, pharmaceutical manufacturers, diagnostics chains and specialist providers.

Outlook: with significant capital allocations already committed for 2026 and major acquisitions completed, healthcare founders and shareholders in the region appear set to continue consolidating market share while building manufacturing capacity. The combined emphasis on acquisitions, cross-border manufacturing projects and integrated care platforms suggests the next phase of growth will prioritise scale, supply-chain resilience and regional service delivery.
