Swvl Raises $13M Investment Led by Sawiris-Backed Coefficient : TechMoran

Swvl Holdings Corp. has agreed to raise $13 million in a private placement led by Coefficient LP, a U.S. investment firm backed by Egypt’s Sawiris family, as the Cairo-founded mobility technology company accelerates its expansion into the United States. Coefficient will provide $10 million of the round while an existing Swvl shareholder will contribute the remaining $3 million. The transaction is expected to close on Aug. 27, subject to customary closing conditions.

“We believe that our results demonstrate that Swvl’s enterprise-first model can scale profitably,” said Chief Executive Officer Mostafa Kandil.

Under the terms of the deal Swvl will issue 8,990,317 Class A shares at $1.446 each. Following the investment, Coefficient is expected to become Swvl’s largest institutional shareholder. Abdalla Ali, founder and managing partner of Coefficient, will join Swvl’s board as part of the transaction. The shares are being sold through a private placement under exemptions from registration requirements of the U.S. Securities Act, and Swvl has agreed to file a resale registration statement covering the securities issued to Coefficient.

Deal terms and strategic use of proceeds

  • Size: $13 million total ($10 million from Coefficient; $3 million from an existing shareholder)
  • Shares: 8,990,317 Class A shares at $1.446 per share
  • Expected close date: Aug. 27, subject to customary conditions
  • Board change: Abdalla Ali (Coefficient) to join Swvl’s board

Swvl said it will deploy the funds to accelerate U.S. operations it has recently started, to launch a lending product for transportation operators and partners within its network, and to strengthen the company’s balance sheet as it pursues multi-year contracts with enterprises and governments. The financing comes as one of the company’s most significant expansion efforts since listing on the Nasdaq, where it trades under the ticker SWVL.

The company presented a series of operational improvements in the first quarter of 2026 that underpin its push into enterprise and government clients. Swvl reported revenue of $8.2 million in Q1 2026, a 68% increase year-over-year. Revenue from the Gulf Cooperation Council rose 111%, recurring revenue accounted for 88% of total revenue, and net dollar retention stood at 114%. Revenue pegged to the U.S. dollar increased to 44% of total revenue, while operating expenses fell to 23% of revenue, metrics Swvl says bring it closer to operating breakeven.

Context and investor profile

  • Geographic presence: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, United Kingdom, and the United States
  • Investor: Coefficient LP — Houston-based, founder-led company investor with a focus that includes decarbonization and the energy transition; backed by the Sawiris family

By securing Coefficient as its largest institutional backer and adding an investor representative to the board, Swvl gains not only capital but active governance support as it scales in the U.S. market and rolls out financial products aimed at its operator network. The company has signalled that these moves are intended to support growth in recurring, enterprise-grade contracts while improving unit economics on the path to profitability.
