Startups in Morocco News
Morocco's startup ecosystem is maturing with $108.44M disclosed across 48 rounds in 2025, growing directory counts (184–185 startups) and a diversification of sectors from fintech and proptech to logistics and circular economy.

Morocco's startup ecosystem is showing clearer signs of maturation: disclosed startup funding reached $108.44 million across 48 rounds in 2025, funding concentration eased with the three largest rounds accounting for 33.66% of total 2025 funding (down from 64.7% in 2024), and directory data places the country more visibly on the map with 184–185 listed startups and notable city clusters in Casablanca, Rabat, Agadir and Bouskoura.
"Morocco’s opportunity is real, yet founders who arrive with copied Silicon Valley theatre will waste time," said Violetta Bonenkamp, a European founder active across deeptech, education, IP technology, and AI tooling, reflecting a recurring theme among local entrepreneurs and investors: build for local commercial behaviour first, then scale.
Market directories and ecosystem reports provide the immediate evidence. StartupBlink's July 2026 country ranking lists 184 startups in Morocco and ranks the country #90 globally and #3 in Northern Africa; its ecosystem page reports 185 startups and year-on-year growth of 30.7% for April 2025 to April 2026. Those counts differ by one company, underscoring how directories update at different cadences and why founders must supplement lists with direct due diligence.
Financing patterns have shifted too. The UM6P-backed Morocco Startup Ecosystem Report for 2025 records $108.44 million in disclosed funding across 48 rounds and highlights that the top three rounds made up 33.66% of that total—an improvement from 2024's 64.7% concentration. The year also included M&A activity and Cash Plus Maroc's fintech public listing, offering early liquidity signals that can anchor investor expectations and founder strategies.
Sector activity is focused on commercial pain points rather than fashionable labels. Notable companies appearing across listings and investor portfolios include:
- Fintech and payments: Cash Plus Maroc (public listing), Yakeey (placed atop StartupBlink's Morocco rankings), Chari, ORA Technologies, S2M.
- Property technology: Yakeey and Agenz (Tracxn records a June 2026 seed round for Agenz).
- Commerce, logistics and agritech: Chari, YoLa Fresh, and DB Services Group (selected by Tamwilcom in 2025 for cross-border logistics work).
- Deeptech, climate and circular economy: Washminute, Relab.ma (refurbished electronics), and Digital 54ND (regtech), cited in investor selections such as EuroQuity.
Bonenkamp recommends a pragmatic approach: "A Moroccan startup can test locally, sell regionally, and build relationships with European customers or investors without pretending that every product needs global consumer scale on day one." In practice, founders who focus on measurable jobs—verified listings, qualified buyer leads, reduced delay or waste in supply chains, traceable ownership in IP workflows—find clearer purchasing signals and shorter sales cycles than those promising vague "digital change."
Looking ahead, the ecosystem's health will be judged by continued diversification of deal sizes, a growing pipeline of exit references, and more companies converting pilots into repeat commercial contracts. For now, Morocco's position—ranked third in Northern Africa by StartupBlink, with reported startup counts rising and 2025 funding distributed across many deals—suggests a market moving beyond hype toward sustained company building.
