Abu Dhabi Puts First Homegrown Satellite in Orbit, Sells Intelligence Not Just Images
Orbitworks, a 2024 joint venture based in Abu Dhabi, built and launched Altair-1 — the first of a planned 10-satellite constellation that performs on‑board AI inference to sell analysis-ready intelligence. The program involves Marlan Space (IHC subsidiary) and Loft Orbital and has pre-sold capacity to CNES and announced a $1B Altair-Next Gen scale program.
UAE’s Orbitworks is putting a homegrown satellite constellation into orbit
Abu Dhabi-based Orbitworks, a joint venture between Marlan Space and Loft Orbital, is preparing to launch the first satellite in its AI-enabled Altair Earth observation constellation in October and plans a 10-satellite constellation with manufacturing capacity in the UAE.
