Startup Funding Nears $1.7 Billion as Saudi Arabia Leads the Market
MENA startups raised about $1.7B in disclosed funding in September 2026, with capital concentrated in several mega-rounds (led by Positron AI) and notable activity in fintech and AI; Egypt and Saudi Arabia saw meaningful deals across stages.

The MENA startup ecosystem recorded nearly $1.7 billion in disclosed funding rounds in September 2026, with the aggregated total of covered deals reaching $1,697,663,000. Funding was heavily concentrated in a handful of mega-rounds — led by Positron AI — while fintech, artificial intelligence, and specialized sectors such as biotech and construction technology also captured sizable capital. Saudi Arabian startups, particularly those in fintech, drove the region’s momentum, with Riyadh-based companies raising more than half a billion dollars in under a month.
"These deals reflect investors' continued focus on companies with scalable business models, as well as startups developing technology infrastructure for traditional industries undergoing digital transformation," the report said.
September's largest disclosed rounds highlighted a clear investor preference for AI and fintech. Positron AI secured the largest round of the month (amount not disclosed in the aggregate list), while fintech names such as barq and Tabby featured among the month's headline transactions. Other notable rounds included BRKZ, which is digitizing construction materials supply, and Corridor, which is deploying AI agents across the insurance sector.
- Total disclosed funding in September: $1,697,663,000
- Leading sectors by capital: Artificial intelligence, fintech
- Notable companies and rounds: Positron AI (largest round), barq, Tabby, BRKZ, Corridor
- Egyptian rounds called out: Zeal — $10 million; 3C Coding School — $3 million Seed; Bekia — $765,000
- UAE total for September: $16.5 million across two deals
The geographical breakdown reinforced Saudi Arabia's leadership in the month. Fintech captured the largest share of capital flowing into the Saudi market, but investments in AI, logistics, construction technology, gaming and other sectors were also recorded. The report noted that several Saudi rounds did not disclose financial values, implying the actual amount raised by Saudi startups could exceed the calculated disclosed total.
Egypt showcased sectoral diversity with fintech, education and cleantech rounds. Highlights included Zeal’s $10 million raise and 3C Coding School’s $3 million Seed round, while Bekia secured $765,000 to advance solutions for digitizing waste collection. The UAE’s activity was more modest in disclosed value, with $16.5 million recorded across two transactions during September.
Funding stages in September spanned the full spectrum from Pre-Seed to Series C, indicating that capital continued to flow across the startup lifecycle rather than concentrating solely on mature companies. In addition to mega-rounds, early-stage and growth-stage activity remained active, underscoring ongoing investor appetite for both scaling ventures and nascent opportunities.
Outlook: The month’s pattern — heavy concentration of capital in a few large rounds alongside broad-based activity across stages and sectors — suggests continued selective deployment of venture capital in MENA. Investors appear to prioritize scalable business models and technology infrastructure that can accelerate digital transformation in traditional industries, while still deploying meaningful capital into specialized areas such as biotech and construction technology. Given undisclosed deal values and persistent interest in AI and fintech, actual funding totals for the region in September may ultimately be higher than the disclosed snapshot.
