Middle East Energy marks 50 years with more than 39,000 energy professionals converging in Dubai

Middle East Energy 2026 closed its 50th edition at Dubai World Trade Centre with more than 39,000 energy professionals from over 150 countries in attendance, organisers reported. Over a third of delegates travelled from beyond the Middle East while GCC visitors accounted for 64% of total attendance. The event showcased the full energy value chain — generation, transmission, distribution, backup power, storage and efficiency — and opened under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.

“Middle East Energy has always been more than an exhibition or a conference. It exists to showcase progress on infrastructure plans, to convert conversations into formal partnerships, and to accelerate the projects that will define the next generation of energy leadership,” said H.E. Yaser Bin Ebrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, Kingdom of Bahrain.

Context and key developments

The 50th edition was inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum alongside H.E. Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and David Lynn, CEO of inD, who toured the exhibition floor and led a high-level opening ceremony. The event’s Leadership Summit convened senior policymakers, investors and corporate leaders including Bruce Johnson (Masdar), Hon. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe (Federal Minister of Power, Nigeria), Mina Arif (Microsoft MEA), and Francesco La Camera (Director General, IRENA).

Organisers highlighted a significant rise in commercial activity represented on-site: attendees held live energy projects valued at $98 billion, more than double the $45 billion recorded in 2025. The Energy Club, the event’s VIP programme, brought together decision-makers from the World Bank Group, Blackstone, Masdar, ADNOC, Microsoft, Mitsubishi Power EMEA, Infinity Power, TAQA, KEC International, the African Development Bank and Rwanda Energy Group.

  • Major initiatives launched or advanced at the event included Powered By Her, an energy leadership initiative backed by the UAE Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure to create opportunities for the next generation of women in energy.
  • The Global Energy Efficiency Alliance (GEEA) Executive Technical Roundtable, convened by the Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure, gathered H.E. Sharif Al Olama and 30 CEOs to move energy efficiency from commitments to implementation; a declaration was signed by Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Hitachi Energy, Siemens Energy and Net0.
  • Industry debate placed new emphasis on the electricity demand surge driven by AI and data centres, with a fireside conversation titled “Powering the AI Era: Building Sustainable Data Centres for the Future of Energy” featuring Khalifa Almheiri (Acting COO, Masdar), Khalid Bin Hadi (CEO, Siemens Energy UAE) and Sevayash Rahnema (Partner, Pinsent Masons).

Exhibitors and market sentiment

International exhibitors from Asia, Africa and Europe filled the show floor, using the platform to display technologies and pursue projects in the region’s expanding energy infrastructure market. Trina Storage, a Trinasolar business unit, underlined the growing importance of storage in the Middle East’s transition: “Energy storage is becoming increasingly critical to the Middle East’s evolving energy landscape… Middle East Energy provides an important platform for bringing these conversations together,” said Jack Chen, Head of Energy Storage, MEA Region at Trinasolar.

Outlook

Organisers signalled continuity and scaling up for 2027, with the launch of Powering AI — an event experience focused on delivering the energy required by expanding digital infrastructure. The introduction of closed-door leadership forums via the Dubai Global Leaders Series and the strengthened industry-government dialogue on public-private partnerships suggest the exhibition will continue to act as a transactional and strategic hub as the region accelerates clean energy projects, grid development, efficiency measures and digitalisation.
