Kenya: Invest Kenya, Eavca Partner to Attract Private Capital
Invest Kenya and the East Africa Venture Capital Association (EAVCA) signed a partnership to mobilise domestic and international private capital into Kenya, focusing on investment missions, deal‑pipeline development, research and capacity‑building to improve investor readiness.

Invest Kenya and the East Africa Venture Capital Association (EAVCA) have signed a partnership aimed at mobilising domestic and international private capital into Kenya and positioning the country as a leading investment hub in East Africa. The agreement commits both organisations to jointly promote Kenya through investment missions, roadshows and targeted deal-pipeline development, alongside joint research and capacity-building to improve investor readiness.
"Private capital is shaping the future of economic growth, and Kenya continues to strengthen its position as one of Africa's leading investment destinations. Our renewed partnership will focus on mobilizing private capital into priority sectors, advancing investment policy reforms, strengthening market intelligence, and deepening public-private collaboration," Invest Kenya Chief Executive Officer John Mwendwa said at the signing.
The partnership lists a suite of coordinated activities designed to convert investor interest into deployable capital and stronger local firms:
- Investment missions and roadshows to connect international and domestic investors with high-potential Kenyan businesses.
- Targeted deal pipeline development to surface investable opportunities across priority sectors.
- Joint research, investment insights and market intelligence to support evidence-based investment decisions.
- Capacity-building workshops to enhance investor readiness and strengthen institutional capabilities.
Christine Maina, representing the EAVCA Chief Executive Officer, stressed that the partnership's success will be measured by tangible outcomes. "For EAVCA, success will be measured not simply by how well we promote Kenya, but by how effectively we turn that engagement into investment, stronger businesses and long-term economic value," she said.
Kenya remains a major destination for startup investors, underpinned by strong technology adoption and a comparatively mature market. Data from a recent industry roundup show Kenyan startups raised KSh16.3 billion in the first half of 2026, a marginal decline from KSh17 billion in the same period of 2025. In the continent-wide ranking, Kenya sat third for startup funding in H1 2026, behind Egypt, which attracted KSh42.3 billion, and Nigeria with KSh32.8 billion.
Equity funding figures across the region further underline competitive dynamics: Nigeria led with $214 million, followed by Egypt at $183 million, South Africa with $66 million and Kenya with $46 million in disclosed equity funding for the same period.
The Invest Kenya–EAVCA collaboration seeks to address gaps that can impede capital flow, from deal structuring and market information asymmetries to investor readiness among local enterprises. By combining Invest Kenya's mandate to market the country with EAVCA's network of venture and private capital investors, the partners aim to accelerate the conversion of investor interest into executed deals.
Outlook
The partnership arrives as investors continue to deploy capital across African markets but concentrate larger ticket funding in a few countries. For Kenya, converting entrenched investor interest into sustained, larger-scale deployments will depend on the partnership's ability to surface higher-quality deal flow, improve institutional capacity, and align policy reforms with investor expectations. If successful, the collaboration could help close the gap with regional leaders in funding totals and boost Kenya's share of equity financing, currently reported at $46 million for the half-year period.
