JioHotstar enters MENA through STARZPLAY partnership
JioHotstar has launched across the Middle East and North Africa via a distribution partnership with STARZPLAY, bringing Indian originals, TV, films and reality formats to the region with tiered subscription plans and a Dubai launch activation.

JioHotstar has launched in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) through a strategic distribution partnership with STARZPLAY, making the Indian streaming platform available as a dedicated destination on STARZPLAY’s app and website across the region. The rollout brings JioHotstar’s slate of Indian originals, television programming, films and reality franchises to MENA, extending the platform’s international footprint beyond the UK, Canada and Singapore. The launch also introduces a tiered subscription structure on STARZPLAY’s service, with the PLUS plan priced at AED 34.99 per month and the MAX plan at AED 49.99 per month, the latter bundling JioHotstar’s entertainment catalogue with STARZPLAY’s sports offering including cricket and major sporting events.
“The strong early response to JioHotstar across the UK, Canada and Singapore has reinforced our belief in the global opportunity for Indian entertainment,” said Amit Malhotra, Head – International Business, JioStar. “As we build JioHotstar into a truly global streaming platform, MENA is a crucial next market, with one of the world’s largest South Asian diaspora communities and a deep appetite for entertainment across languages.”
The partnership positions STARZPLAY as a broader home for South Asian audiences in MENA by combining its established regional distribution and sports catalogue with JioHotstar’s multilingual content library. Maaz Sheikh, CEO of STARZPLAY, framed the tie-up as a strategic move to reduce fragmentation for viewers: “Bringing JioHotstar to STARZPLAY is a strategic investment in that future, combining the strength of India’s storytelling with our understanding of this region and the audiences we serve.” He added that cricket has already provided STARZPLAY “a strong and lasting relationship with South Asian audiences across the region,” and that JioHotstar will help “extend that relationship beyond the match and into the entertainment households return to every day.”
Content, languages and launch activation
The integrated offering will include new JioHotstar Originals released concurrently with their Indian premieres, popular television shows from JioStar channels, blockbuster films and reality programming. Reality titles scheduled for the regional catalogue include the upcoming season of Koffee with Karan and the ongoing season of Bigg Boss across six language editions. The catalogue spans Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Bangla and additional languages, with a notably significant Malayalam selection intended to serve the sizeable Malayali community in MENA.

Outlook
JioHotstar and STARZPLAY are framing the collaboration as both a distribution and product-play: beyond immediate content availability, JioHotstar is exploring AI-powered personalisation, conversational content discovery, interactive entertainment and in-app commerce as part of efforts to evolve the streaming experience. The partners’ combined subscription model aims to offer flexibility—an entertainment-focused plan or a bundled entertainment-plus-sports package—intended to drive adoption across diverse households in MENA.
To mark the regional launch, JioHotstar staged a high-profile activation at Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, projecting a Big Bang visual spectacle that paired both brands on the world’s tallest building. The activation underscores the platforms’ ambition to make STARZPLAY the go-to destination where “every member of the family finds something they value,” in Maaz Sheikh’s words, while accelerating JioHotstar’s push to take Indian stories, talent and cultural moments to audiences around the world.
