Amman, Feb. 20 (Petra) — The Jordan Free and Development Zones Group (JFDZG) has launched a new phase of comprehensive redevelopment for the Dead Sea Tourist Beach, formerly known as Amman Tourist Beach, as part of a push to upgrade Jordan’s tourism offering and enhance the competitiveness of the Dead Sea Development Zone. The Group has signed a management and operation agreement with FHM, a national company specialized in hotel and restaurant management, to rehabilitate and operate the site to international standards ahead of Eid Al-Fitr and the next tourism season.
"The agreement seeks to introduce modern management methods based on advanced technologies, while ensuring full compliance with public safety and environmental sustainability standards," said Sakher Al-Ajlouni, Chairperson of the Group’s Board of Directors, describing the move as an effort to strengthen integration between the "Tourist Beach" and the "Corniche" projects, which he characterised as two key pillars in boosting the area’s overall appeal.
JFDZG framed the redevelopment as a multi-dimensional project that extends beyond immediate tourism benefits. The Tourist Beach spans approximately 240 dunums and can accommodate more than 4,500 visitors at one time. The redevelopment plan emphasises a safe, family-friendly environment, modernised service facilities, shaded seating areas, and the introduction of hotel and recreational services designed to meet visitor expectations.
- Operator: FHM, national hotel and restaurant management company.
- Site area: approximately 240 dunums.
- Capacity: more than 4,500 visitors simultaneously.
- Timeline: rehabilitation and operation to be in place for Eid Al-Fitr and the next tourism season.
- Scope of contract: daily management, operations, maintenance, marketing, digital promotion, and ticketing system management.
Reem Sahaouna, Acting Director General of the Development Zones, outlined the breadth of the new operating contract, noting that it "covers a wide range of responsibilities from daily management, operations, and maintenance to marketing, digital promotion, and ticketing system management." She added that the objective is to "ensure consistent operational quality and to provide integrated services befitting the Dead Sea’s status as a unique global tourist destination."
JFDZG highlighted the project’s anticipated socio-economic impact: it is expected to create direct employment opportunities for members of the local community and to activate the Group’s corporate social responsibility programmes aimed at supporting the surrounding environment and achieving sustainable development. The Group presented the upgraded Tourist Beach as a qualitative addition to Jordan’s tourism investment landscape and a signal of its commitment to supporting the national economy and stimulating the business environment within development zones.
Looking ahead, the redevelopment positions the Dead Sea Tourist Beach to capture both domestic and international visitation during the coming season. With FHM overseeing operations and a stated emphasis on safety, sustainability and technology-driven management, authorities expect the site to open as a refreshed, family-oriented destination in time for the Eid Al-Fitr holiday and to contribute to the broader revitalisation of the Dead Sea corridor.
