How IIIT-H alum Pramod Nair is reshaping India’s gig economy, one Startup at a Time

Pramod Nair, an IIIT‑Hyderabad alumnus and winner of the IIIT‑H Alumni Achiever Award 2026, has helped reshape India’s gig economy through a string of ventures that culminated in LoadShare Networks — a cross‑vertical last‑mile logistics marketplace that has facilitated over a million shipments across 100+ Indian towns and cities. Co‑founded in 2017 with Raghuram Talluri, LoadShare scaled to a 1,000 Cr+ revenue company within nine years, serves 50,000+ active riders and has expanded to the UAE and Saudi Arabia after raising nearly $50 million from investors including Tiger Global and Matrix Partners.

“Today is a perfect day to look back,” Nair said, reflecting on a career that spans four successful startups across edtech, ecommerce, mobile, fintech and logistics, multiple exits and three consumer apps with millions of downloads.

Nair’s path from IIIT‑Hyderabad to founding category‑defining startups was shaped by early technical work and research. At IIIT‑H he contributed to a million‑book digitization project and co‑authored work on multilingual information retrieval with Vamshi Ambati and Prof. Raj Reddy. After graduating, he joined D.E. Shaw & Co., where he built the firm’s first enterprise data warehouse and investor reporting platform, before launching his first startup, LearnSocial, in 2012. LearnSocial — a hybrid peer‑to‑peer learning platform — was acquired by Way2SMS within nine months of launch.

He then co‑founded MartMobi, a mobile e‑commerce platform incubated at IIIT‑H’s CIE, which became the first Indian startup accepted into Techstars in the US and was later acquired by Snapdeal. That acquisition led to integration into Shopo, a C2C platform that achieved millions of downloads and a seller base of over 200,000. Nair went on to lead engineering at FreeCharge in Bangalore, and after its acquisition by Axis Bank began planning a logistics play with Talluri.

LoadShare and TransportBook: building two‑sided logistics marketplaces

LoadShare was founded to leverage existing SMEs and gig workers to build a two‑sided logistics marketplace connecting brands with riders and fleets. The company integrates with e‑commerce, quick commerce, food delivery and bike‑taxi services to offer flexible work and choice to delivery partners. Its rider app, LoadShare Rider, is one of three consumer apps developed by Nair’s teams that touch millions of users daily.

  • LoadShare: Founded 2017; scaled to 1,000 Cr+ revenue in nine years; >1 million shipments across 100+ towns; 50,000+ active riders; Series C backing including Tiger Global and Matrix Partners; launched in UAE and Saudi Arabia.
  • TransportBook: Positioned as India’s largest transport management platform for small truck owners and transporters, with over a million registered trucks.
  • Prior exits: LearnSocial acquired by Way2SMS; MartMobi acquired by Snapdeal; team transitioned to Shopo and FreeCharge.

Nair’s awards and recognition include The Business World 40 Under 40 in 2025 for his 15 years of contribution across multiple product categories and market models. He remains connected to IIIT‑H as a mentor, guest lecturer and alumnus involved with the institute’s incubation ecosystem.

Outlook: With recent Gulf market entries and fresh capital from marquee investors, LoadShare is positioned to extend its gig‑economy model regionally while TransportBook continues to digitize trucking operations in India. Nair’s trajectory — from research assistant and startup founder to scaling multimarket logistics and transport platforms — underscores a pragmatic blend of product engineering, marketplace design and serial entrepreneurship that will shape how last‑mile and trucking logistics evolve in the coming years.
