GymNation Launches the World’s First Protein Shisha Bar

GymNation has announced the launch of what it bills as the world’s first protein shisha bar — a tobacco-free, nicotine-free vapor concept that delivers sports supplement-inspired flavours inside gym environments. The chain said the protein shisha will debut as part of a series of café-style recovery and social spaces at selected GymNation clubs across the UAE, KSA and Bahrain throughout 2026, with a pilot site opening in Riyadh before further rollouts to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Bahrain.

“Shisha culture is a huge part of social life across the region, just as gym culture has become,” said Rory McEntee, GymNation’s chief marketing officer. “This concept brings those two worlds together in a way that aligns with our values – no tobacco, no nicotine, and no compromise on the gym environment.”

Concept and scientific framing

The protein shisha uses a proprietary herbal, molasses-based vapor system that GymNation says is completely free from tobacco and nicotine. Each blend is inspired by popular sports supplements such as whey protein, creatine, BCAAs and pre-workout, and menu names include The Whey Cloud, Macro Mist and BCAA Breeze. GymNation positions the offering as a post-workout recovery and social experience integrated into its club cafés.

GymNation developed the concept alongside Dr. Sami Al-Banna, identified in the announcement as Chief Scientific Innovator in aerosolised nutrition. Dr. Al-Banna is quoted explaining the purported physiological advantage of inhaled protein: “When protein is delivered via inhalation, it bypasses traditional digestive breakdown and can enter circulation far more efficiently. This delivery method enhances bioavailability, resulting in faster uptake, reduced metabolic loss and superior functional benefits compared to conventional protein consumption.”

The rollout will begin with a Riyadh pilot and expand across the Gulf Cooperation Council during 2026, with planned sites called out explicitly for Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Bahrain. GymNation frames the initiative as part of a broader strategy to convert gyms into community hubs that combine training, recovery and social connection.

Outlook

GymNation’s move attempts to fuse a regional social tradition with fitness-focused services, targeting members who seek recovery and social spaces without leaving the club. “We’re seeing a global shift toward alternatives to traditional shisha, and this is our take on that trend – tailored for a fitness-first audience and the cultural context of the region,” McEntee added. The company will seek to validate its physiological and engagement claims during the Riyadh pilot before scaling across the GCC later in 2026.
