Gulf South startups targeting $1M+ raise: Apply to VILLAGEx
The Idea Village is accepting applications to its 2027 VILLAGEx accelerator for Gulf South startups preparing to raise $1M+; alumni include Glass Half Full, Hello Gravel and CampusKnot.

Applications are open for the 2027 VILLAGEx cohort, a four-month hybrid accelerator from New Orleans’ The Idea Village designed for Gulf South startups preparing to raise at least $1 million. The program begins Jan. 12 and culminates in a Demo Day in front of more than 300 regional investors and founders. Applications, including a pitch deck, financials and cap table, are due Nov. 6.
“VILLAGEx gives them the mentors, the capital access, and the proof points to build and scale their companies right here,” said Andrew J. Albert, programs director at The Idea Village.
Now entering its ninth cohort, VILLAGEx targets companies across the Gulf South that already have traction and are moving toward larger outside funding rounds. The accelerator emphasizes that accepted companies should be preparing to raise a seven-figure round: applicants are expected to meet at least two of five selection criteria laid out by the program.
- Rapid growth
- Using technology to solve a problem or improve a process
- Planning to raise at least $1 million within 24 months
- Serving a new or niche market in a new way
- Pursuing a business model with the potential to reshape an industry
Participating teams are paired with experienced founders and investors and receive focused support on fundraising strategy, pitch decks, investor introductions, diligence and valuation. Each company also receives a 4- to 5-person advisory board that meets monthly to guide growth and fundraising efforts.
The Idea Village can point to concrete alumni outcomes as evidence of the program’s efficacy. Since launching its $7 million Momentum Fund in 2023 to back accelerator alumni, the organization has seen 11 VILLAGEx companies receive investment through that fund. Graduates who meet the fund’s requirements within 18 months of completing VILLAGEx can become eligible for a $100,000 investment at market terms.
Alumni highlighted by the program include New Orleans glass recycler Glass Half Full and Hello Gravel, a 2025 graduate that received Momentum Fund investment and soon afterward raised its next round. Another 2025 alum, CampusKnot, an AI education company, raised more than $1 million in a round that included the Momentum Fund among its investors.
Application requirements are explicit: teams must submit a pitch deck, financials and a cap table by the Nov. 6 deadline. The four-month hybrid format aims to enable founders to stay rooted in the Gulf South while accessing regional investor networks; the program wraps with a Demo Day that places companies in front of the region’s investor community.
Outlook
As VILLAGEx starts its ninth year, The Idea Village is positioning the accelerator as a pathway for Gulf South startups to scale without relocating. The combination of mentorship, an advisory board structure, and access to the Momentum Fund creates a clear pipeline from program participation to potential follow-on capital — a model that those alumni wins suggest can translate into seven-figure raises. For companies that meet the stated eligibility criteria and are preparing to pursue a $1 million-plus round within two years, the accelerator and its Nov. 6 application deadline represent a time-sensitive opportunity to tap regional investors and structured fundraising support.
