General Assembly and Innovate for Bahrain Partner to Boost Startup Ecosystem

General Assembly Middle East has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Innovate for Bahrain, a platform operated by Bahrain FinTech Bay, to deepen cooperation on digital skills development, entrepreneurship and innovation in the Kingdom. Announced on July 23, 2026, the partnership will jointly deliver programmes and initiatives for entrepreneurs, innovators, students and professionals, including specialised workshops, industry events, mentoring and networking aimed at strengthening entrepreneurial capabilities and supporting Bahrain’s startup ecosystem and digital economy.

"This partnership comes at a time when Bahrain continues to achieve significant milestones that reinforce its position as one of the region’s leading destinations for innovation and entrepreneurship in technology, including its ranking among the top five startup ecosystems in the MENA region," said Ahlam Oun, Director, General Assembly Middle East Academies. "At General Assembly, our role extends beyond developing technical skills to becoming an active partner in supporting Bahrain’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Today, we are proud that more than 400 of our graduates are employed within startup companies, while other graduates have successfully launched more than 20 startups and entrepreneurial ventures."

The agreement outlines several concrete activities that the two organisations will implement to connect talent with industry needs and to build a pipeline of future-ready professionals. Planned activities include:

  • Specialised workshops targeting technical and entrepreneurial skillsets;
  • Industry events and knowledge‑sharing sessions to expose participants to market trends and investor perspectives;
  • Mentoring opportunities led by industry experts supplied by General Assembly;
  • Professional networking designed to strengthen links between employers and emerging talent.

Among the early collaborative efforts, General Assembly will provide mentoring and professional guidance through industry experts taking part in Innovate for Bahrain initiatives. The partnership specifically highlights a contribution to the Women in Tech Programme via a specialised mentoring session focused on User Experience (UX) Design, signalling an emphasis on inclusive access to digital careers.

"This partnership represents an important step toward strengthening Bahrain’s startup ecosystem and creating greater opportunities for ambitious young people and entrepreneurs," said Suzy Alzeerah, Chief Operating Officer, Bahrain FinTech Bay. "We believe that building a supportive environment for innovation requires close collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure access to the resources, expertise, and pathways needed to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs."

The memorandum aligns with Bahrain’s broader policy push to promote innovation and accelerate the digital economy by developing human capital and supporting the growth of startups and innovative businesses. Organisers say the collaboration will help bridge education and the private sector by fostering direct engagement between employers and skilled professionals equipped with future-ready capabilities.

Looking ahead, the partners intend to scale programmes that translate training and mentorship into measurable economic outcomes—employment, startup formation and stronger employer pipelines. General Assembly’s cited outcomes—more than 400 alumni employed in startups and over 20 alumni-launched ventures—will serve as early benchmarks as the initiative seeks to expand participation and track how training interventions convert into new companies, job placements and ecosystem growth across Bahrain.
