FOMO Pay taps Sumsub as AI fraud surges across APAC
FOMO Pay has partnered with identity and compliance provider Sumsub to integrate identity checks, business verification and transaction monitoring as the payments firm expands across Southeast Asia, the Greater Bay Area and MENA amid rising AI-driven fraud.

FOMO Pay has partnered with Sumsub to bolster its compliance and verification capabilities as the Singapore-based payments firm expands across Southeast Asia, the Greater Bay Area and the Middle East and North Africa. The deal will see FOMO Pay integrate Sumsub’s modular, API-first trust infrastructure — including identity checks, business verification and transaction monitoring — into its existing technology stack to meet shifting regulatory and operational demands across multiple jurisdictions.

“As financial services become increasingly interconnected across markets, businesses need technology and compliance infrastructure that can evolve alongside their operations,” said Leona Gan, director of business development at FOMO Pay. “At FOMO Pay, we continuously develop our processes and technology to support our expanding footprint and changing regulatory requirements. Our partnership with Sumsub adds further capabilities to our verification and compliance workflows, complementing the broader infrastructure we have in place as we scale across markets.”
Context and details
The tie-up arrives amid a marked rise in sophisticated AI-driven fraud across APAC and the Middle East. Sumsub’s Identity Fraud Report 2025-26 found that complex AI-backed attacks, often multi-stage and resource-intensive, grew 180% globally in 2025 compared with 2024. Regionally, the Middle East experienced the steepest rise in fraud at 19.8%, with APAC second at 16.4%.
- Deepfake incidents surged in Asia, increasing 158% in Singapore and 147% in Hong Kong year-on-year, according to the report.
- Sumsub’s platform recognises over 14,000 types of identity document issued across more than 220 countries and territories.
- Its in-house liveness detection claims the ability to catch as many as 99.98% of deepfake attempts in a single scan.
Under the agreement, FOMO Pay will deploy Sumsub as a supplementary compliance layer to refine processes for different customer segments and jurisdictions. During onboarding, the fintech will use the platform for identity verification, business checks, ownership verification and anti-money laundering (AML) screening. Post-onboarding, Sumsub’s transaction monitoring tools will help FOMO Pay review payments and account behaviour to surface warning signs across the full customer lifecycle.
Sumsub’s vice president for APAC, Penny Chai, commented on the convergence of payments and digital assets: “Payments and digital assets are converging, and customers increasingly move between services, platforms, and markets. For highly regulated sectors like financial services, trust and compliance must keep pace with these developments. Our partnership with FOMO Pay reflects the growing need for scalable compliance operations, enabled by trust infrastructure that can adapt to evolving regulations and emerging fraud risks as financial services become more interconnected.”
Outlook
FOMO Pay plans to continue building its digital financial infrastructure across global payments, global business accounts and digital assets, while exploring further AI and automation integration within its products and services. The Sumsub partnership provides the company with an off-the-shelf compliance stack that can scale across regions with divergent regulatory requirements — a capability likely to be tested as AI-driven fraud techniques, notably deepfakes and multi-stage synthetic attacks, continue to rise across APAC and the Middle East.
