Etihad Rail Dubai Abu Dhabi train launches September 30 as premium tickets sell out

Etihad Rail’s long-awaited passenger service between Dubai and Abu Dhabi will begin operations on September 30, with tickets for some inaugural services already sold out. Comfort-class fares between the two emirates start at Dh39, while Premium Class fares begin at Dh109. Premium seats on the first Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi train are fully booked, and the entire 1:14pm Dubai–Abu Dhabi service has sold out; on the return route, Premium Class for the 12:43pm Abu Dhabi–Dubai service is no longer available.

"A particularly memorable moment," said Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, reflecting on the launch after UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan travelled as the first passenger on an inaugural Abu Dhabi-to-Dubai journey.

The new service will operate from Al Yalayis Station in Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai, to Mohamed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi. Scheduled journey times are listed at about 64 minutes for the Dubai–Abu Dhabi run, though some Etihad Rail information cites trip durations of around 57 minutes depending on timetable and service. On launch day Etihad Rail has scheduled five services in each direction: Dubai departures at 6:14am, 7:14am, 1:14pm, 5:14pm and 6:14pm; Abu Dhabi departures at 6:43am, 7:43am, 12:43pm, 4:43pm and 5:43pm.

The opening also expands passenger rail services to Al Dhaid in Sharjah, and introduces a Dubai–Fujairah service departing Dubai at 1:57pm with fares starting at Dh29 and an approximate journey time of 70 minutes. Al Yalayis Station is located close to the Dubai Metro Red Line, and planners say a dedicated pedestrian connection will link the station to Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station to allow passengers to combine Etihad Rail services with Dubai’s urban public transport network.

Etihad Rail launched passenger operations between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah in June 2026, and the Dubai launch on September 30 marks the next stage in the phased national roll-out. The early sell-outs for certain times and Premium Class seats indicate concentrated demand around particular departures, though a number of Day 1 seats remain available for passengers willing to book alternative services.

The new service is positioned as a regular inter-emirate transport option rather than a high-speed link: a separate high-speed rail project aims to connect Dubai and Abu Dhabi in roughly 30 minutes in the future. For now, passengers gain a fixed rail timetable, competitive fares and convenient connections to Dubai’s metro network—features likely to shape commuter and leisure travel patterns between Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other emirates as additional stations open through 2027.
