Egypt’s Sisi Meets Nigeria’s Dangote, Discusses Potential Investments in Egypt

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote, founder and chairman of Dangote Group, on the sidelines of the Alamein-Africa Business Forum in New Alamein City to discuss potential investments by Dangote Group in Egypt. The meeting was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty, and focused on cooperation in energy, fertilizers, chemicals and cement.

"Al‑Sisi welcomed Dangote’s visit to Egypt and participation in the forum, highlighting his contributions to economic development and industrialization across Africa," presidential spokesman Mohamed El‑Shennawy said. "The state was ready to provide all necessary facilities to support such investments," he added.

The president praised Dangote Group’s expansion across multiple sectors — including cement, fertilizers, energy and food industries — and underscored the company’s role in strengthening productive and industrial capacities in several African countries. Al‑Sisi also noted Dangote’s ties to Egypt through education, saying the industrialist is an alumnus of Al‑Azhar University, a point the president described as reflective of longstanding cultural and historical ties among African peoples.

  • Participants: Abdel Fattah Al‑Sisi; Aliko Dangote, founder and chairman of Dangote Group; Mostafa Madbouly, Egyptian prime minister; Badr Abdelatty, foreign minister and minister of international cooperation and Egyptians abroad; Mohamed El‑Shennawy, presidential spokesman.
  • Discussion areas: potential cooperation in energy, fertilizers, chemicals and cement, and broader industrial and investment partnerships.
  • Rationale: Egyptian officials emphasised Egypt’s economic capabilities and modern infrastructure as positioning the country as a potential regional hub for energy and industrial activities.
  • Investor request: Dangote expressed interest in securing Egyptian state support for the group to invest in Egypt; the Egyptian presidency signalled readiness to facilitate such investments.

The meeting aligns with Egypt’s broader push to deepen economic engagement with African markets and to encourage private‑sector investment and industrial cooperation across the continent. Presidential messaging framed stronger private‑sector involvement as a key partner in achieving sustainable development and advancing the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

For Dangote Group, which has built a regional footprint across cement, fertilizers, energy and food, Egypt presents both market scale and infrastructural advantages. Egyptian officials highlighted the country’s modern infrastructure and economic capabilities during the talks, positioning Egypt as a potential regional hub for energy and industrial activities — an argument that underpinned Dangote’s request for state backing to move forward on investments.

Outlook: With the presidency signalling governmental support, the next steps are likely to include follow‑up technical and commercial discussions between Dangote Group and Egyptian ministries and agencies to translate the expressed interest into concrete projects. Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and relevant ministers are expected to engage on implementation details should the group pursue investments in the targeted sectors.
