Egyptian Startup ParlexAI Joins Sixth Cohort of Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator
Egyptian startup ParlexAI, which builds AI-powered solutions for financial institutions, has been selected for the sixth cohort of the Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator to support its continental scaling plans. The three-month hybrid programme will provide mentorship, investor access, and partnership opportunities across Africa.

Egyptian startup ParlexAI has been selected to join the sixth cohort of the Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator, a three-month hybrid programme that kicked off in Accra, Ghana. The latest cohort brings together 21 fintech companies from nine African countries operating across 24 markets, and for the first time includes startups from Niger, Togo, and Seychelles. ParlexAI, which develops AI-powered solutions for financial institutions to improve customer engagement, joins other participants aiming to scale across the continent.
"Being selected to join the sixth cohort of the Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator is an important milestone for us and a strong validation of the progress we have made as an Egyptian company operating at the intersection of artificial intelligence and fintech," said Mohamed Mohsen, Co-Founder and CEO of ParlexAI. "This is particularly significant given the programme’s highly selective nature and the limited number of companies selected from each African market."
The accelerator’s launch activities in Accra connected founders with prominent players across Ghana’s and Africa’s fintech ecosystem. Organizations involved in those engagements included Onafriq, EY Ghana, Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited, GCB Bank PLC, Societe Generale Ghana, and MEST Africa. The interactions were designed to give participating startups opportunities to meet financial institutions, technology companies, and entrepreneurship support communities, laying groundwork for partnerships and pilot opportunities.
Programme format and focus areas
The Visa Africa FinTech Accelerator is structured as a three-month hybrid programme featuring an introductory week, 10 weeks of specialized online sessions, an Investor Week, and a Demo Day where startups present to investors and venture capital funds. The accelerator targets startups at the Seed to Series A stage with a viable minimum product, and focuses on areas including emerging payment flows, embedded finance, merchant and SME enablement, payments infrastructure, the future of financial services, and sustainable and inclusive finance.
- Number of participating startups in cohort: 21
- Countries represented: 9 (operating across 24 markets)
- New country participants for this cohort: Niger, Togo, Seychelles
- Programme partners and potential funders: Visa, Plug and Play, and investor participants at Demo Day
ParlexAI’s inclusion underscores its ambition to scale AI offerings for banks and financial institutions beyond Egypt. Mohamed Mohsen added: "We see ParlexAI’s inclusion among this group of promising African companies as a strong indicator of the competitiveness of the technology we are building, as well as the ability of Egyptian companies to develop solutions that can compete and scale beyond the local market. Our ambition is not only to build a successful product in Egypt, but to establish ParlexAI as one of Africa’s leading companies in AI applications for the financial sector."
Outlook
Through the accelerator, ParlexAI will access specialized training, one-on-one mentorship, and opportunities to connect with investors, banks, and potential partners across Africa. The company plans to pursue partnerships in customer service, collections, fraud prevention, and process automation, leveraging Visa’s network to accelerate continental expansion. Mohsen highlighted the commercial opportunity, saying the African market offers "a significant opportunity for AI-powered solutions in financial services" and expressing intent to build partnerships with banks, financial institutions, and fintech companies across multiple African markets.
