Egypt Opens Applications for Entrepreneurship Initiative Offering Up to USD 4K Per Startup
Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has opened applications for the second phase of a nationwide entrepreneurship initiative offering up to USD 4,000 (EGP 200,000) per selected early-stage startup, plus incubation and technical support. The programme aims to reach more than 2,000 young entrepreneurs after selecting 10 winners in its first edition.
Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has opened applications for the second phase of a nationwide entrepreneurship initiative that will back early-stage ventures with funding, incubation and technical support, targeting more than 2,000 young men and women across the country. Selected projects will receive financial and technical assistance of up to around USD 4,000 (EGP 200,000) during the incubation period as the programme seeks to help participants develop market-ready businesses.
"The initiative aims to reach more than 2,000 young entrepreneurs nationwide, backing early-stage ventures with funding, incubation, and technical support," the programme brief states, underscoring the scale and ambition of the new phase.
Launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the second phase invites interested applicants to register through the initiative’s online application portal. The programme builds on lessons from its first edition, in which a judging committee convened at the Youth Innovation & Education Center in Gezira to evaluate finalist projects. Representatives from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation attended that committee meeting.
- Target reach: more than 2,000 young entrepreneurs nationwide
- Maximum financial support per selected project: about USD 4,000 (EGP 200,000)
- Incubation and support: funding, technical and logistical support, plus incubation lasting up to nine months
- First edition results: 10 winning startups were selected for funding and support
The programme’s first edition identified 10 startups from the pool of finalists to receive a package of support that combined direct funding, technical and logistical assistance, and access to an incubation track lasting up to nine months. That outcome is being positioned as the foundation for an expanded roll-out in the current phase, with organisers highlighting the need for combined financial and operational support to move ideas from concept to market-facing ventures.
Officials emphasise that early-stage entrepreneurs benefit from more than capital alone: mentorship, structured incubation and technical assistance are cited as key enablers for transforming promising concepts into sustainable businesses. By offering a mix of these services alongside grants of up to EGP 200,000, the initiative aims to shorten the path from ideation to viable business model and to broaden access to entrepreneurship opportunities across Egypt’s governorates.
Selection for the second phase will follow an evaluation process similar to the first edition, with applications screened to identify the strongest projects eligible for funding and support. The ministry has called on interested applicants to register through the initiative’s online portal and to prepare documentation that demonstrates market potential and readiness for incubation.
Looking ahead, the next milestones will be the announcement of the projects selected for the second phase and monitoring their progress throughout the incubation period. The experience of the first cohort — notably the selection and support of 10 startups — will inform the programme’s ongoing development as it seeks to expand access to entrepreneurship and foster a larger community of innovation-minded founders across Egypt.
