E20 Investment and EDAFA Venture have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore investment and cooperation opportunities across agriculture, aquaculture, food security and related technologies, the two Abu Dhabi-based firms announced. The agreement will support startups developing technology and business solutions for the agriculture and food sectors, with applications for the initiative scheduled to open on September 22.

“The initiative connects startups with operational expertise and investment opportunities while supporting the development of practical solutions for the agriculture and food sectors,” said Eng. Essam Aly, CEO of EDAFA Venture.

Scope and strategic roles

The MoU brings together E20 Investment’s operational experience across the agribusiness value chain and EDAFA Venture’s focus on early-stage investing and startup support. E20 Investment will contribute operational expertise, infrastructure, capabilities and regional experience, while EDAFA Venture will provide investment and strategic support to the startups identified through the partnership.

  • Application opening: September 22 (global call to startups)
  • Target sectors: agritech, water and irrigation management, sustainable agriculture, precision farming
  • Supply chain focus: post-harvest and cold-chain systems, supply chain and distribution technologies
  • Additional coverage: livestock, poultry and dairy; aquaculture; seeds and agricultural inputs; integrated agricultural and industrial solutions

Practical aims and selection process

The partners said they will work to identify technologies and business models that address practical challenges across agriculture and food production. Startups selected through the initiative will be assessed for technical promise and commercial viability, with the objective of helping suitable solutions progress into scalable projects across regional markets.

E20 Investment brings hands-on capabilities spanning farm design and construction, agricultural production, processing and distribution — stages of the agribusiness cycle that the company says it has operational experience in. EDAFA Venture, led by Eng. Essam Aly, will concentrate on sourcing and financing high-growth early-stage companies and providing strategic assistance to accelerate their growth.

Context and related activity

The partnership arrives amid a growing focus on resilient food systems and technology-driven agriculture in the region. The initiative’s broad remit — covering irrigation, precision farming, cold-chain logistics and inputs such as seeds — reflects industry priorities for improving productivity, reducing post-harvest losses and strengthening food-security infrastructure.

In related market activity, a separate UAE-based startup, Omooma, recently secured $2.5 million in a funding round, underscoring investor interest in food- and health-tech companies in the region.

Outlook

With applications opening on September 22, E20 Investment and EDAFA Venture will begin screening startups globally that offer solutions across the enumerated areas. The partnership’s stated aim is to pair investment capital with operational know-how so that pilot projects can be developed into deployable systems for regional markets. If successful, the collaboration could accelerate the commercialization of agritech innovations and help scale operational models for production, processing and cold-chain logistics across the Gulf and neighbouring markets.
