Congressman Deluzio, Mt. Lebanon Leaders Celebrate Funding for Recreation Center Upgrades
Congressman Chris Deluzio secured $850,000 in federal Community Projects Fund money and supported a separate $100,000 state DCED Local Share Account award to finance accessibility and infrastructure upgrades at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center. The funding will prioritize a new elevator and staircase to connect the building's two floors and improve access for children, seniors, and residents with disabilities.
MT. LEBANON, PA — Yesterday, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) and Mt. Lebanon officials gathered beside the Recreation Center on Cedar Boulevard to mark new federal and state investments that will fund accessibility and infrastructure upgrades at the facility. Deluzio presented a ceremonial check for $850,000 in federal Community Projects Fund money he secured, and officials also celebrated a separate $100,000 award from the Pennsylvania DCED Local Share Account that will support the project.
"I’m proud that I secured $850,000 in federal funds to upgrade the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center," said Congressman Deluzio. "This project will bring more opportunities to Lebo residents, especially kids and seniors. Congratulations to the folks in Mt. Lebanon leadership for earning this federal funding. I’ll always fight down in Washington to bring home federal money to make life better for all of us in Western PA."
Context and project details
- The upgrades are designed to connect currently isolated parts of the building with a new elevator and staircase, allowing residents of all abilities to access both floors of the Recreation Center, including classroom and community spaces on the second floor.
- Congressman Deluzio’s $850,000 award was one of his FY2026 community funding project selections; he secured more than $193 million for fourteen projects across his Western Pennsylvania district for Fiscal Year 2026.
- According to the release, that total earned Deluzio the distinction of being the U.S. House Democrat who secured the most funding for their district out of the FY2026 spending bills and places him third out of all 435 U.S. House Members.
- The $100,000 state allocation was supported with a letter of support from Congressman Deluzio; local officials acknowledged State Senator Wayne Fontana and Former State Representative Dan Miller for assistance securing the state funds.
- Officials at the event included Andrew Flynn, Mt. Lebanon Commission Vice President; State Representative-Elect Jen Mazzocco; staff from State Senator Wayne Fontana’s office; Municipal Manager Keith McGill; and other local leaders.
"The Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center opened in 1977 as a state-of-the-art facility so advanced, it was where the Pittsburgh Penguins practiced," said Municipal Manager Keith McGill. "In the years since it was built, we have looked more closely at ensuring accessibility so all our residents, visitors and staff can take full advantage of the recreation programs we offer. We are eternally grateful to Congressman Deluzio for securing the $850,000 grant from the federal Community Projects Fund and for another $100,000 from the Pennsylvania DCED Local Share Account, thanks to State Senator Wayne Fontana and Former State Representative Dan Miller."
Outlook
Local leaders said the combined federal and state funding will finance the initial accessibility-focused phase of improvements at the Cedar Boulevard facility, prioritizing an elevator and staircase to integrate the building’s two floors. The upgrades are intended to expand use of classrooms and community spaces on the second floor and improve access for children, seniors, and residents with disabilities. Photos and video of the event were made available to the press by Congressman Deluzio’s office.
