Bahrain FinTech Bay Expands Strategy to Develop AI Solutions for Financial Institutions

Bahrain FinTech Bay (BFB) has announced a strategic expansion to develop AI products and services for financial institutions, alongside broadening access to cloud infrastructure and training, with the first partnerships and agreements signed on Day 1 of Fintech Forward 2026. The new direction positions BFB to move beyond its traditional role as an ecosystem connector to become an active developer of AI solutions delivered in partnership with technology providers, while its subsidiary Innovate for Bahrain (I4BH) will lead AI initiatives for non-financial sectors.

“Bahrain has spent years building a strong fintech ecosystem, and our next step is to make that ecosystem work even harder for companies and financial institutions. Through this new direction, BFB will help fintech companies set up and grow from Bahrain, and help our banks adopt AI with the right partners. The agreements we signed at Fintech Forward 2026 are where that starts.” – Bader Sater, CEO, Bahrain FinTech Bay

The announcement was made during Fintech Forward 2026, an event hosted by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), programmed by Forbes Middle East and supported by the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB), the Labor Fund “Tamkeen”, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, and Bahrain FinTech Bay. Under the expanded strategy, BFB will develop AI-first products and services specifically for financial institutions while continuing to provide AI training that “ranges from strategy courses for senior leaders to practical, day-to-day uses of AI for teams.”

BFB also confirmed it will expand access to digital infrastructure — explicitly including Google Cloud infrastructure — to enable companies to build, test, and scale solutions from Bahrain. The approach keeps intact BFB’s two core mandates: to facilitate fintech companies establishing in Bahrain and expanding across the GCC and MENA, and to support the digital transformation of the financial services sector.

  • Primary focus: AI products, services, and training for banks and financial institutions delivered in partnership with technology providers.
  • Subsidiary role: Innovate for Bahrain (I4BH) will develop AI products and services for companies outside financial services, running AI-first innovation programmes and startup accelerators in partnership with government, corporations, and academia.
  • Infrastructure support: Expanded access to Google Cloud and other digital infrastructure to support development, testing, and scaling from Bahrain.
  • Early moves: Initial partnerships and agreements finalized on Day 1 of Fintech Forward 2026, signalling an immediate operational push.

The expanded strategy aligns BFB’s ecosystem-building work with a more product-oriented role, seeking both to attract international fintech firms through close collaboration with the Central Bank of Bahrain and the Bahrain EDB and to accelerate AI adoption within local banks. I4BH’s mandate to run AI-first innovation programmes and accelerators means non-bank companies in Bahrain will also have a distinct route to specialised AI support.

Looking ahead, BFB’s stated intent is to translate the partnerships and agreements announced at Fintech Forward 2026 into concrete opportunities for fintech companies, financial institutions, and technology providers. By combining AI training, partner-delivered product development, and cloud infrastructure access, BFB aims to enable banks and fintechs to prototype and scale AI solutions from Bahrain while maintaining regulatory alignment with the CBB and strategic support from the EDB.
