MNT Tech Holding for Financial Investments, the Egyptian arm of fintech unicorn MNT-Halan, has filed to list on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), taking a formal step that could become one of the market’s most significant listings in years. The application covers issued capital of EGP 160 million, divided into 1.6 billion shares with a nominal value of EGP 0.10 each. The filing will be published for five business days before being reviewed by the exchange’s listing committee, with supporting documents still being finalised.

“The project will target 20 MW of capacity within its first three years before scaling up to 192 MW,” Vodafone Egypt CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Abdallah said during a press conference announcing a joint data centre venture — a separate but related signal of growing local tech infrastructure investment.

The MNT-Halan filing is limited to the company’s Egyptian business. The fintech reportedly engaged Citigroup and EFG Hermes to manage the potential transaction and pitched investors on a valuation of up to USD 1 billion for its domestic operations. The proposed listing does not affect MNT-Halan’s regional assets, which remain privately held.

MNT-Halan achieved unicorn status in 2023 following a USD 200 million investment from UAE-based Chimera, and in June reached a USD 1.4 billion valuation after a strategic round led by Al Ahly Capital, the investment arm of the National Bank of Egypt — the first time a commercial bank became an equity partner in the company. The group says it has disbursed more than USD 15.5 billion since launch and serves over 8 million customers.

The listing bid comes at a time of heavier private and public investment in Egypt’s tech and infrastructure sectors. Vodafone Egypt’s business arm, together with Elsewedy Electric and Cassava Technologies, unveiled plans for what they describe as the country’s largest data centre and an AI facility running on Nvidia hardware. The joint venture expects to raise about USD 200 million for the facility’s first phase, with total investment reaching roughly USD 1 billion at full scale. Vodafone business sector VP Mahmoud El Khateeb said construction should take 12–18 months, and placed the AI data centre’s cost at more than USD 100 million with an estimated six-month completion for that specific site.

Market watchers say an EGX listing by a high-profile fintech would test appetite among foreign investors that the exchange has struggled to attract. If the filing proceeds to an offering, it would not only provide liquidity for MNT-Halan’s Egyptian unit but could also serve as a signal to other regional tech firms weighing public listings versus private capital.
