BENEFIT has launched Digital Direct Debit in Bahrain, a digital service that integrates credit information and payment functionality to streamline the lending journey from credit assessment through secure, recurring repayments. The offering enables banks and financial institutions to set up electronic recurring debit arrangements for installments and other scheduled payments, reducing dependence on manual and paper-based processes while giving customers a clear way to manage monthly commitments according to agreed amounts and schedules.
“Digital Direct Debit gives participating institutions a reliable way to arrange and process recurring financial obligations based on clear, pre-authorized instructions. It reduces operational processing, makes payments easier for customers, and supports more consistent collections,” said Shafaq Al Kooheji, Assistant General Manager of Payment Services at BENEFIT. “Its applications also extend beyond lending to the insurance sector, where it can be used to collect premiums in line with agreed payment schedules, making it relevant across a range of financial activities.”
Integration of credit and payments
The service links BENEFIT’s payment expertise with the capabilities of the Bahrain Credit Reference Bureau to address multiple stages of the lending lifecycle within a single, integrated framework. Credit information from the bureau is intended to support sound underwriting and lending decisions, while the payment rail provides an efficient mechanism for managing recurring repayments. BENEFIT positions this combined capability as a practical foundation for delivering a more consistent end-to-end lending experience.
Latifa Al Mutawa, Assistant General Manager of the Bahrain Credit Reference Bureau, said the market is increasingly gravitating toward digitally enabled lending journeys. “The growing interest in Digital Direct Debit among banks and financing companies reflects the market’s continued shift toward more seamless and digitally enabled lending journeys,” she said. “By connecting reliable credit information with an efficient digital repayment mechanism, we are helping lenders strengthen the end-to-end lending experience from informed credit decisions through to the collection of repayments. This integration simplifies processes for financial institutions, improves the customer experience, and provides a stronger foundation for the continued growth of digital lending in Bahrain.”
What Digital Direct Debit delivers
- Electronic setup of recurring debit arrangements that are pre-authorized by customers, reducing manual paperwork.
- Simplified collections for lenders through automated, scheduled debits tied to agreed payment amounts and dates.
- Improved customer experience via straightforward management of monthly commitments and predictable repayment flows.
- Cross-sector applicability, notably in lending and insurance premium collection.
- Integration with credit bureau data to align repayment mechanisms with informed credit assessments.
Outlook
BENEFIT’s Digital Direct Debit aims to make collections more consistent and lower operational overhead for financial institutions, while providing borrowers a clearer, automated route to meet obligations. By pairing repayment rails with credit bureau insights, the product targets both origination quality and post-disbursement recovery, a combination likely to appeal to banks, finance companies and insurers pursuing digital transformation. As adoption grows among Bahraini lenders and financing companies, the integration could serve as a model for similar deployments in neighbouring markets seeking to digitise recurring-payment workflows and strengthen end-to-end lending processes.
