Ali Mokhtar: Beltone VC Allocates $1 Million to Invest in 3 Startups in Consumer sector, Technology and PropTech

Ali Mokhtar, CEO and Managing Partner of Beltone Venture Capital, said the firm has allocated approximately $1 million — roughly EGP 50 million — to invest in three Egyptian startups across the consumer, technology and property-technology (PropTech) sectors, and that negotiations are in their final stages. Two of the target companies are at the Pre-Seed stage and the third is at the growth stage; Mokhtar expects the investments to be finalised within the next two to three months, or by the end of the year.

"Beltone Venture Capital has allocated approximately $1 million, equivalent to around EGP 50 million, to invest in the three companies," Mokhtar said, describing the trio as "the most advanced investment opportunities" on a broader evaluation list.

The planned allocation is part of a broader push by Beltone Venture Capital to deploy liquidity generated from earlier exits and to expand its footprint across different stages of the startup lifecycle. Mokhtar confirmed the fund is simultaneously pursuing exit activity: negotiations for a "major exit" from one of its Egyptian portfolio companies have reached the agreement stage, though he declined to disclose the company name or the transaction value until final procedures are complete.

  • Investment allocation: approximately $1 million (≈ EGP 50 million) to three Egyptian startups
  • Stages: two Pre-Seed startups, one growth-stage company
  • Timing: expected to close within 2–3 months or by year-end
  • Exits: Beltone has completed five exits to date and is pursuing a "major exit" in Egypt

Mokhtar also addressed recent reports concerning Bosta, clarifying Beltone did not fully exit the logistics startup. "The previous exit involved other investors whose investments are managed by Beltone, rather than Beltone’s direct stake in the company," he said, adding that Beltone still holds a direct stake of approximately 5% in Bosta.

On regional activity, Mokhtar revealed ongoing negotiations over a potential exit from one of Beltone’s Moroccan portfolio companies. He said that if the current terms are completed, the transaction "could generate a return of up to three times Beltone’s investment within a period of less than 18 months," though he stressed the outcome remains contingent on finalising the deal.

Strategic fund-building is another pillar of Beltone’s near-term roadmap. Mokhtar said the firm is studying the establishment of new investment funds in partnership with Beltone Asset Management and other investors, combining Beltone’s investment role with its responsibilities for managing assets. Those plans are in early stages and details on capital size and investor composition are yet to be finalised.

Separately, Beltone and digital broker Thndr are targeting a first-quarter 2027 launch for a startup fund. Mokhtar confirmed work on that vehicle is ongoing, with the fund’s capital expected to exceed EGP 250 million and potential for growth as investor interest rises.

With five exits already completed since its inception, Beltone Venture Capital is positioning available liquidity for redeployment into new startups and larger private equity opportunities, while advancing multiple investment and fund-formation tracks across Egypt and the wider region.
