Algeria Startup Challenge Launches 8th Edition After Supporting 375+ Startups Through 25+ Open Innovation Challenges
The Algeria Startup Challenge (ASC) has launched its 8th edition to connect startups with corporates, public institutions and investors across four tracks — Greentech, Smart Care, Innov & Insure and Harm Reduction — and says it has supported 375+ startups and channelled 124 million DZD in contracts and grants.

The Algeria Startup Challenge (ASC) has opened its eighth edition, renewing its drive to connect startups, corporates, public institutions and investors to solve Algeria’s economic and societal priorities. Since launching in 2018, ASC reports it has supported more than 375 startups and run in excess of 25 open innovation challenges, helping participating ventures secure over 124 million DZD in contracts and grants. This year’s edition is framed around the theme “Innovating Across Sectors. Scaling Impact” and introduces four targeted challenge tracks: Greentech, Smart Care, Innov & Insure, and the Harm Reduction Initiative Awards.
"Innovating Across Sectors. Scaling Impact," the organisers said, encapsulates the programme’s aim to push market-ready solutions into pilots and commercial contracts with corporate partners.
ASC continues to employ a venture clienting model that directly links startups with industry partners to address real-world business problems and explore proof-of-concept projects. Partners announced for the 2026 cycle include BNP Paribas El Djazaïr, WellTech Center by FADERCO, the Union Algérienne des Sociétés d’Assurance et de Réassurance, CASH Assurances, SAA, and Philip Morris International — a network intended to provide market access and procurement pathways as well as technical validation.
Programme support and eligibility
- Target applicants: established, impact-driven startups and early-stage ideas, including Algerian entrepreneurs, researchers and founders based in Algeria or abroad whose solutions align with national economic needs.
- Benefits for selected teams: "Selected teams will benefit from a comprehensive package including coaching, technical support, bootcamps, pilot-testing opportunities, investor access, and potential financial backing."
- Model: venture clienting to accelerate commercial pilots and procurement contracts between startups and corporate partners.
The organisers highlight measurable outcomes from earlier editions: more than 375 startups supported, over 25 open innovation challenges launched, and upwards of 124 million DZD channelled to startups via contracts and grants. Those numbers are intended to demonstrate ASC’s role in moving ventures from proof-of-concept to revenue-generating pilots within the Algerian market.
Operationally, the challenge emphasizes sectoral breadth. Greentech and Smart Care are positioned to address environmental sustainability and health-tech gaps respectively, while Innov & Insure aims to catalyse insurance-tech solutions. The Harm Reduction Initiative Awards are presented as an additional social-impact strand.
Outlook and calendar
- Timeline: The programme will culminate in an annual event scheduled for October 2026, featuring a startup battle, expert panels and opportunities for partnership signings.
- Strategic aim: deepen collaboration between startups and industry to convert pilot projects into signed contracts and scalable business models across Algeria’s economy.
By maintaining a pipeline of corporate partners and investor access, ASC expects to continue driving commercial validation and funding for Algerian startups, with the October 2026 event set to spotlight finalists and formalise new industry-startup engagements.
